A very cool image, Joe. Besides the great movement blur, I'm liking the shades of green. L

Joe this is one of the most amazing long exposure/speed blur images I've ever seen...completely mesmerizing

Joe Schofield replied:

Combine the rush of noise, the wind created, the sense of power, concussion and loss … indeed I was mesmerized. Thank you for that, Jim.

Very nice work. Also Freight by The Silver Darlings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQmwqdbflQE

Joe Schofield replied:

Paul, I took a look and a listen to the clip you included above. Searched, but couldn’t find the lyrics. I was reminded of this wee little bar with live music when in Edinburgh last. Love venues like that.

Artist's Description

On a stretch of New Mexico hwy 54, headed toward Corona. I pull over to stretch a bit, then hear the sound of the freight. A neutral density filter for the movement, a beautifully cloudy morning, and some lyrics of Bruce playing in my mind. A fleeting moment of reflection, a tug at the heart, and the visceral concussion from the rails.

54 mm, f/18 1/2 sec, 8 stop ND

One Minute You're Here

Big black train comin' down the track
Blow your whistle long and long...

One minute you're here
Next minute you're gone

I lay my penny down on the rails
As the summer wind sings its last song

One minute you're here
Next minute you're gone

Baby, baby, baby
I'm so alone

Baby, baby, baby
I'm coming home

Autumn carnival on the edge of town
We walk down the midway arm-in-arm...

One minute you're here
Next minute you're gone

I thought I knew just who I was
And what I'd do but I was wrong,

One mi...

About Joe Schofield

Joe Schofield

As a kid I was fascinated with photographs. Look. Life magazine. National Geographic. That well-captured interplay of light and shadow...the notion of people, places and moments - all suspended in time. My first "real" camera was a Minolta Srt101. I was seduced. As a teenager, I learned to develop film while working at Wyle Laboratories in El Segundo. I still recall the smell of the developer, my eyes adjusting to the red filter light, and the sheer magic and delight of watching images begin to emerge. Life, family and a career as a teacher and psychologist intervened, not to mention a few more film cameras. Eventually, there was digital. Liberation! Photography is the creative medium that has allowed me to share personal ...
