Description
Bath Abbey has been a place of Christian worship for well over a thousand years. Three different churches have occupied the site of today’s abbey since 757 AD. First, an Anglo-Saxon monastery which was replaced by a Norman Cathedral to the present day Abbey, which is the last great Medieval church to be built in the country. The Abbey has undergone many transformations and changes during this time, survived a number of major conflicts, architectural and religious reforms, and two World Wars, yet still stands.
This ornate historical grave inscription, one of many along the interior walls, details the life of a Sir Philip Frowde, including his service, multiple marriages, and children...all 9 of them. The inscription is crafted to resemble draped cloth hanging within a decorative frame.
