Description
A companion image of a previously posted shot of Soda Lake, this shot taken from atop the overlook at Carrizo Plain National Monument. The Carrizo Plain is the largest single native grassland remaining in California.
Here, a vast body of water, Soda Lake at Carrizo Plain is a closed drainage basin that concentrates salts as water evaporates, resulting in white deposits of sulfates and carbonates, and is composed of fine-grained sediments like mud, with a salt crust that is usually dry except after rainstorms.
Only a few hours from Los Angeles, the Carrizo Plain offers visitors a rare chance to be alone with nature. Some visitors say you can "hear the silence." The plain is home to diverse communities of wildlife and plant species including several listed as threatened or endangered and is an area culturally important to Native Americans.
The placid Soda Lake reflecting the ranges is essentially full, a rarity.

I'd have to plant myself in this spot after getting a shot of this view (not as good as this image I'm sure) just to take in the beauty
