Artist's Description
Seen way over the rooftops from my dining room window and moments before the sunrise, the "supply-chain issues" at Los Angeles Harbor are on display. On that morning, there were a reported 46 ships scattered within and beyond the breakwater, waiting their turn. When I drive over the bridges into Long Beach, I pass virtual mountains of containers.
As of Wednesday morning 12-15-21, there were 97 vessels either at anchor, drifting or slow steaming toward the San Pedro Bay, according to the port's daily operations report.

About Joe Schofield
As a kid I was fascinated with photographs. Look. Life magazine. National Geographic. That well-captured interplay of light and shadow...the notion of people, places and moments - all suspended in time. My first "real" camera was a Minolta Srt101. I was seduced. As a teenager, I learned to develop film while working at Wyle Laboratories in El Segundo. I still recall the smell of the developer, my eyes adjusting to the red filter light, and the sheer magic and delight of watching images begin to emerge. Life, family and a career as a teacher and psychologist intervened, not to mention a few more film cameras. Eventually, there was digital. Liberation! Photography is the creative medium that has allowed me to share personal ...

Revisiting. "Ship Of Fools" comes to mind, but is not spot on, as that makes it sound like the people on the ship are the problem...
Joe Schofield replied:

Joe I have to say the view from your house beats the daylights out of the view from mine. Unless of course you're into seeing the donkey just next door. Love how you've captured the ships as dark silhouettes on the gleaming water...excellent
Joe Schofield replied:
Hey! Donkeys !
Judy Wolinsky

Regarding Denise’s comment below (as well as a couple of others), I digress: the image was taken with an Olympus OMD EM1 MK II micro 4/3 camera, with a 300 mm lens. Leaving aside arcane discussions about format preferences, it is argued a 300mm m4/3’s lens provides the reach of a 600mm full frame lens. Therefore, if you have ever used a 600mm lens for a distant shot, you’d probably agree when I say the image above is not so much a fine view of LA Harbor from my home as it is a peek of a sliver of a view over my neighboring rooftops. You’d have to squint!

You have a beautiful view from your window! L/F
Joe Schofield replied:
Sorta, yeah! Thanks Denise !
Jim Cook
Beautiful photo of the sunrise and documents the situation we face today. I imagine the view is even more beautiful sans the ships.
Joe Schofield replied:
It is but a glimpse over the rooftops, Jim. Appears quite different with the 300mm m4/3
Lorraine Palumbo
