Description
Do wishes deferred become dreams deferred?
Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes :
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
One of the earliest innovators of the literary art form called jazz poetry, Langston Hughes was an American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist from Joplin, Missouri. He is best known as a leader of the Harlem Renaissance.

Seems like you kept these for quite a while to gather up such a pile. I read the poem and get it. Sure, I do believe we wish for the things we dream about and often it feels like they will never be realized. I have an image I did of a graveyard where hopes and dreams go to die. I've seen this before and may even have commented on it but it is quite a compelling image as we can easily relate to it. Again, fabulous work!

Wonderful piece, Joe! Love the title...I remember as young children we would always argue over who would have the wish bone :)

Terrific composition, and excellent question. I think dreams are powerful things, and one way or another, we keep moving toward their fruition.
